Have you ever been invited to a party and felt that no one cares about you? You could be half naked peeing on a couch singing Jingle Bells, anyone would pass by, hardly noticed it, end of the story. This is exactly how I feel about Instagram.
I remember posting a story on the app, sharing the link to my substack saying something like “ if you follow me on Instagram that's because you like my work, isn’t it? I’m on substack sharing things, so let’s be friends”. Nothing happened. N.O.T.H.I.N.G !
I’m not going to write a full essay on the highs and lows of social media but just need to say this: we all need to find our tribe. People who care about us, what we do, and what we think, not just “consuming” content. No matter if you’re a writer, musician, or visual artist, you’re not a content creator, you need an audience, you need friends, you need real relationships and let’s be honest, buyers.
I came back to Instagram in October because a gallery wanted to follow my growth as an artist but after 2 months, the truth is they never liked any of my posts, pretty sure that they’ve never seen them, thanks to the algorithm! What’s the point? Now more than ever, even if I’m an introvert, I’m craving real connections, I think we all need that!
I really want to take advantage of the chat option on Substack so I’m thinking about launching regular conversations on it.
As it’s not yet available on browser, what’s the best for you yet?
That’s all for me now,
See you soon,
Love, BC
ps: sorry if there’s any grammar error in my newsletter, I’m trying to improve my English and did not want to bother my little sister with grammar check today 😃
Chat would probably be the best but it's not available yet on my device. :/
I’m relatively new to Substack and haven’t chatted much yet, but would be glad to try it. Your illustrations are charming and I hope to see more of them soon.
Cheers, Susan
